Systems Engineering

Requirements are an expression of need, demand or obligation. The Systems Engineering process aims to establish a consistent, agreed set of requirements and manage these requirements throughout the project lifecycle. Requirements management is the term used to describe this activity.

The importance of having a clear, complete and correct set of requirements at the start of a project is widely acknowledged and numerous studies have correlated good requirements with project success and/or poor requirements with project failure [e.g. Standish Group 1995, KPMG 1997, Glass 1998].
